About me

About my site

I’m a passionate fan of British motorcycles from the fifties and earlier. There’s something about them that really resonates with me, I love the relative simplicity of the machines and the lack of plastic and computers of more modern machinery, everything is very hands-on.

After thoroughly enjoying writing a few articles for a British classic motorcycle magazine and getting them published I wanted to write some more. I thought my own website with a blog would allow me to explore some more creative writing.

My Japanese diversion, to be fair, it’s trying hard to look like a British bike!

About me

I’m married with 2 grown-up children, we live just outside Auckland, New Zealand on a small acreage where along with the kids, we’ve also raised a small quantity of beef cattle! Its a great place to live and also to ride motorcycles as I’m already situated in the country, away from city traffic. I’ve worked in IT for 40 odd years and I’ve found these old bikes are a welcome break from the technology in my working life.

Other interests

Hard to believe but motorcycles were not my first love, I only got involved with them after turning 25-ish, the first 25 years, and something that continues to this day is my passion for aeroplanes and flying. I held a Private Pilots License for 20 years and after gaining my license I started trying to get involved in old aeroplanes – there’s something of a theme here.

I achieved this somewhat with completing quite a few hours in aircraft such as Piper Cubs and Auster’s, but the ultimate for me was my time flying a 1943 North American Harvard. When my first child was born I gave up flying and now feel I’m past taking it up again.

Loved flying this aeroplane!

My other interests are tennis, surfing and travelling. I still thoroughly enjoy tennis and surfing but don’t travel as much as I used to. I did do some quite extensive travelling in Europe, Africa and South America in my youth.
